David Tonkin, MD, is a board-certified physician and the medical director of interventional pain at Elite Pain Management and Recovery Centers in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, and Springfield, Missouri. As a pain management and anesthesia specialist, Dr. Tonkin is an expert in interventional pain techniques.
Dr. Tonkin graduated from Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, Virginia, before earning his medical degree at the American University of the Caribbean School in Coral Gables, Florida, in 2000. He completed postgraduate training at West Virginia University in Morgantown, the University of Pittsburgh in Pittsburgh, Temple University Western Pennsylvania Hospital in Philadelphia, and Wayne State University and Henry Ford Health System in Detroit.
After finishing his training, Dr. Tonkin was a practicing anesthesiologist for several years before completing an accredited interventional pain fellowship at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit. With a strong background in anesthesiology and interventional pain management, he is a national opioid epidemic educator and well-known speaker on the issue.
From epidural injections and nerve blocks to holistic medicine and opioid addiction treatments, Dr. Tonkin can treat a number of pain-related conditions.
Shawn Stranckmeyer, MD, is a board-certified family medicine physician, addiction medicine physician, and medical director of Elite Pain Management and Recovery Centers in Springfield, Missouri. Dr. Stranckmeyer served his country in the United States Marine Corps before pursuing a career in medicine.
After completing his undergraduate studies at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville in Illinois, Dr. Stranckmeyer earned his medical degree from the University of Medicine and Health Sciences – St. Kitts in the Caribbean.
With a deep interest in pain medicine, Dr. Stranckmeyer joined Elite Pain Management and Recovery Centers in June 2017. At the two locations, Dr. Stranckmeyer performs a number of pain management techniques for acute and chronic pain, including nerve blocks, regenerative medicine, and radiofrequency ablation.
When not providing exceptional pain management care to his patients, Dr. Stranckmeyer enjoys spending time at home with his family.
Farayi Jonnes Mbuvah, MD, is a board-certified physician specializing in pain management at Elite Pain Management and Recovery Centers in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Originally from Zimbabwe, Dr. Mbuvah is proud to bring his pain medicine expertise to the residents in the area.
After graduating at the top of his class from the University of Zimbabwe Godfrey Huggins School of Medicine in Harare, Zimbabwe, in 2003, Dr. Mbhuvah practiced in Africa as an OB/GYN for five years.
In 2012, he relocated to Cleveland to begin an internal medicine residency at the Cleveland Clinic. Shortly after his residency ended, Dr. Mbhuvah completed an anesthesiology residency at Ford Hospital in Detroit, ultimately serving as chief resident.
With extensive experience in internal medicine, obstetrics and gynecology, and pain medicine, Dr. Mbhuvah provides exceptional pain management care for patients suffering from fibromyalgia, cancer pain, back pain, neuropathy, and more. He delivers a number of treatments at Elite Pain Management and Recovery Centers, including epidural injections, nerve blocks, radiofrequency ablation, and regenerative medicine.
When he isn’t working with patients to diagnose and treat pain, Dr. Mbhuvah loves spending time with his family and traveling around the world.
Mary Taylor received her bachelors degree from East Carolina University in 2014 and Master’s in Nursing from Simmons College in Boston, Massachusetts in 2020. She spent her RN career as a chemotherapy infusion nurse taking care of oncology patients. She was drawn to nursing because she had the desire to care, serve and help others. Mary Taylor is a board-certified Family Nurse Practitioner through the American Nurses Credentialing Center. Mary Taylor joined Elite Pain Management and Recovery Centers in July 2020.
Seth received his Bachelors of Science in Nursing from Missouri Western State University in 2006. He spent 10 years working as a RN with experience in critical care, telemetry and orthopedics in Springfield. In 2017 he completed his Doctorate of Nursing Practice from Missouri State University with honors. His doctoral research project focused on pain management.
Seth is a board certified Family Nurse Practitioner and a member of the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners.
Seth joined Elite Pain Management in July 2017.
Amanda was born and raised in Southwest Missouri. She received her Associates in Nursing degree from Mercy College of Nursing/Southwest Baptist University in 2013 and her Master’s in Nursing from Walden University in 2018.
She spent her RN career as a bedside nurse for Mercy Hospital in Springfield on the Neurology floor providing care to Stroke and Trauma patients with a small portion of time as an inpatient Hospice nurse. Amanda is proud to be serving the community she grew up in. Amanda is a board-certified Family Nurse Practitioner through the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners and is also a member of the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners.
Amanda joined Elite Pain Management and Recovery Centers ® in January 2019.
A native of Iowa, Amanda began her career serving five years as an Air Traffic Control Sergeant in the United States Army. She moved to Missouri where she attended Missouri State University earning a Bachelor degree in the Science of Nursing. Amanda received her master’s degree at the University of Missouri.
She has eight years of experience as an emergency/ trauma nurse in the states of Missouri, Nevada and Hawaii, during which she spent the last two years as an emergency room educator in a Level 1 trauma center.
Amanda has practiced at the Cox Walmart clinics, Mercy Internal Medicine clinic as well as Jordan Valley Community Health Clinics in Springfield and Hollister, Missouri. Her focus is to take care of the whole person in pursuit of a better quality of life.
She is a board-certified Family Nurse Practitioner.
Amanda joined Elite Pain Management in June 2017.
